Official State Soil: Drummer June 20th This is a photo of the layers that make up a Drummer soil profile. Drummer: Grassland Soils. Layer 1: A very deep soil surface layer rich in decaying plant matter. Layer 2: The roots of the native prairie grasses that built this soil were this deep — and deeper! Layer 3: Lower layers have patches of gray and yellowish-brown that show it was waterlogged.
