Official State Soil: Tunbridge
February 5th

This is a photo of the layers that make up a Tunbridge soil profile. Tunbridge: Colorful, Forest Soils. Layer 1: The surface layer is rich in partly-decayed leaves and stems. Layer 2: Seeping rain washes the reddish iron and clay out of this layer, leaving it white. Layer 3: Layer rich in iron and tea-like organic compounds washed down from above. Layer 4: Layer was deposited by a retreating glacier. It appears much like the whole soil profile did thousands of years ago when the soil first began to form.
