Official State Soil: Houdek June 1st This is a photo of the layers that make up a Houdek soil profile. Houdek: Grassland Soils. Layer 1: Very deep soil surface rich in decaying plant matter. Layer 2: Rainwater does not normally seep this deep, so lime accumulates rather than washing down and out. Layer 3: Layer was deposited by a retreating glacier. It appears much like the whole soil profile did thousands of years ago when the soil first began to form.
