Official State Soil: Paxton
October 28th

This is a photo of the layers that make up a Paxton soil profile. Paxton: Young, Forest Soils. Layer 1: Plowing mixes surface organic matter into the top eight inches of soil. Layer 2: Clay minerals are starting to form and accumulate. Layer 3: Layer was deposited by a retreating glacier. It appears much like the whole soil profile did thousands of years ago when it first began to form.
