Forces of Change

El Niño is monitored at sea as well as from space. NASA satellites in space measure changes in the temperature and height of the ocean surface. At sea, a network of NOAA buoys measures ocean temperatures 1500 feet down. When an El Niño occurs, changes in the deep ocean occur as well.

NOAA scientists deploy buoys to measure deeper ocean temperatures, narrated by NASA scientist Dave Adamec.
