Official State Soil: Forkwood
September 14th

This is a photo of the layers that make up a Forkwood soil profile. Forkwood: Desert Soils. Layer 1: Soil surface with little decaying plant matter. Layer 2: Layer is rich in clay washed down by seeping rainwater. Layer 3: Rainwater does not regularly seep this deep, so lime builds up rather than washing down and out. Layer 4: Lime in this layer makes the soil fizz when you add a little acid.
