Dig It! team members, soil scientists, docents and educators will be out and about over the next few months at a variety of public events spreading the word about our exciting new exhibition. One of the goals of the Dig It! project is to increase public understanding about the importance of soils in our world. Soils are vital natural resources. Soils support diverse natural ecosystems and all human activities. Come visit the Dig It! team at one of these upcoming events and learn more about the role soils play in our world.

National Museum of Natural History, 2nd Floor
Join Sammy the Soil, Dr. Dirt, soil scientists, volunteers and educators to celebrate the opening of Dig It! The Secrets of Soil. Work with real soil to build your own soil monolith. Dig deeper into soil with Dr. Dirt's hands-on activities and explore this hidden world. Visit three hands-on demonstration carts where visitors can become a soil chef, see how soils are alive, and learn what soils have to do with all life on Earth. Support for this event was provided by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS) and the Soil & Water Conservation Service (SWCS). - One Planet - Ours! What do soils have to do with a "greener" and more sustainable world? Find out at this USBG exhibition that focuses on sustainability - how each of us and our communities can live for tomorrow, as well as for today. 'One Planet - Ours! Sustainability for the 22nd Century' will showcase garden displays on the Conservatory Terrace and interpretive and sculptural displays in the National Garden and Bartholdi Park.
