El Niņo and the Deep Sea |
 |
| El Niņo is monitored at sea as well as from space. NASA satellites in space measure changes in the temperature and height of the ocean surface. At sea, a network of NOAA buoys measures ocean temperatures 1500 feet down. When an El Niņo occurs, changes in the deep ocean occur as well. |
NOAA scientists deploy buoys to measure deeper ocean temperatures. Click to view video. |
